Job Shadow Narrative
On a Thursday morning I chose to job shadow Mrs. Lemus, a teacher from Reagan Elementary. I chose to job shadow her because when I was younger I always wanted to know what it was like work with kids and show then what to do. A few weeks back I was a volunteer at Reagan Elementary helping them out with their work and it influenced me to go deeper and do a job shadow.
During my job shadow I did different things through my day. As I got there I saw Mrs. Lemus take roll of all her students to make sure they were all here. I noticed that others teachers got their later then other. While she was taking roll she told me she wasn’t that busy so I had the chance to interview her then. After asking her all the questions she showed me her lesson plans for the day and told me that one must always be prepared. She explained to me that if she sees anyone not doing their job correctly, she has to remind them to do it correctly and stay on task. Later during the day, we were in the classroom and she was reading her emails and printing papers she would need for the next day.
My experience during my job shadow was what I had expected. I thought it would be harder to take care of the kids and she was going to have to race her voice a lot on the students but he didn’t need to. I learned that for this job you need to be really organized and have good leadership skills. I expected this job to be less stressful and less managing with paperwork. Mrs. Lemus job is supervising and teaching all the children important lessons that will prepare the kids for the future.
After spending the day with Mrs. Lemus at Reagan Elementary, I know working with children is a big responsibility and may lead to having some stress. I enjoy this job but I decided this job is not for me because of the stress the paperwork puts on the teachers and being in a classroom most of the day. I would like a job where you move places not always stationary in one spot.
